It began with a name.
When I began this project, I challenged an AI to beat my own idea: Deweaponize.ai.
I asked it to come up with its very best alternative. Among its suggestions was HumanShield.ai—a name with deeply troubling associations in the context of warfare.
It then declared defeat.
That was the worrying part. Not the name itself, but the gap between confidence and judgement.
It was a small encounter. Yet it raised a much larger question: if an AI can miss the human implications of a name, what might happen when increasingly capable systems are entrusted with decisions that truly matter?
This is not evidence that AI is inherently dangerous, or that a single naming mistake predicts catastrophe. It is a reminder of why scrutiny, context and human accountability matter.
